Disability and Intersectionality

The intention for this chapter is to offer a high-level summary of key issues surrounding disability and intersectionality. The aim is to convey an accessible introduction for a readership that may include those unversed in disability and intersectionality. Intersectionality is concerned, among other things, with identities and how they converge to create conditions of compounded privilege and disadvantage. It then follows that the focus on disability in this chapter will be largely identity related. In concluding the chapter, some common criticisms and their responses around the value of intersectionality for the disability community will be presented.
