Disabilities in Addictive Disorders

Addictive disorders are among the common disorders in the human population. They are associated with significant impact on the individual and the society. However, the conceptualization of disability in addictive disorders has achieved limited recognition, partly because society ascribes the genesis of substance use disorders to the proclivities of the person. Since addictive disorders fall under the ambit of mental health conditions, the disability as a consequence of substance use disorders is being gradually recognized. This write-up discusses the conceptualization of disability due to addictive disorders as a model among various models of addictive disorders. The issues of addictive disorders in those with a disability are discussed further.
