Cognitive Deficits and Disability: Evidence of Nonpharmacological Interventions
摘要
Better functioning is linked to cognitive integrity, while cognitive impairment is a major contributor to disability. Cognitive deficits are core components of most of the neuropsychiatric disorders. Cognitive deficits often stand as a major treatment challenge. Several medications, psychological interventions, and neuromodulation strategies are adopted to manage the cognitive deficits. A growing body of research indicates that cognitive remediation is a useful approach to address cognitive deficiencies and reduce the resulting handicap. The paradigms of clinic-based cognitive rehabilitation, home-based/community-based cognitive remediation, and manual to digitalized (computer-based) intervention have significantly changed over the past few decades. This chapter focuses on the overview of cognitive deficits in various neuropsychiatric disorders and the scope of various nonpharmacological interventions to deal with the cognitive deficits.
