A diagnosis of schizophrenia implies severe lifelong symptoms and significant disability. The aim of this chapter is to discuss aspects of life lived with schizophrenia that are important to address clinically in order for that life to be experienced as meaningful and valued. The chapter covers the definition of schizophrenia, its causes, and its treatments and subsequently discusses domains of function often neglected in personal treatment. They are referred to in the literature on this topic, however, as being requisite to a fulfilling life.
