Victoria Ocampo’s Transnational Networks: A Sociocultural and Data-driven Approach

Victoria Ocampo (1890–1979) was an Argentinian writer, publisher, and cultural animator, who took part in the most prominent cultural networks of her time. There is abundant literature on her essays and work as a publisher, but we still know very little about the networks she established with other women, in Europe and the Americas. Within a sociocultural and network approach, this paper aims at retracing Ocampo’s transnational networks by focusing on her ties with Gabriela Mistral, María de Maeztu, Victoria Kent, or Virginia Woolf throughout her travels, correspondence, and work as a publisher. To do so, we will apply digital methods and social network analysis and also consider her role in the welcoming of Spanish women refugees in Latin America after the Spanish Civil War.
