Introduction: Digging, Unburying and Going to Writing School

In this opening chapter, I provide an autoethnographic introduction to the life and work of Hélène Cixous, specifically Three Steps on the Ladder of Writing and the three writing schools. The backstory to this edited collection is also shared and the writing workshop held at the Critical Autoethnography Conference in Melbourne, 2019, is described. The chapter focuses on the contents of Three Steps on the Ladder of Writing and the inspiration this work has for the contributors to write critical autoethnography with a Cixousian sense-ability.
