摘要

This chapter provides an empirical and theoretical examination of the election of politically marginalized groups in Brazil in 2020. The work is based on quantitative data and a theory of political representation. As in previous elections, new rules were instituted. First, forming party coalitions were prohibited; and, later political parties were required to ensure that Black and white candidates had proportional distribution of public resources for campaign financing and electoral advertising time on radio and television. In this way, rules thathad been in place since the 2016 elections that sought to promote gender equality in politics, were extended to combat racial inequalities.
