Anal cancer is a human papillomavirus-associated malignancy. The majority are of squamous cell origin. They occur between the anal verge and the anorectal line in the regions of the pecten and the anal transitional zone. Combined chemoradiation is primary therapy for anal squamous cell carcinoma. Local excision is considered in selected early cases. Abdominoperineal resection may be offered for salvage.
