Loop-end ileostomy is an alternative to end ileostomy if the end of the ileum cannot be brought above the skin surface without tension or ischemia. Loop-end ileostomy has a mesenteric arcade that perfuses the stoma. Suspension of the loop-end ileostomy over a rod prevents stoma retraction.
