Colonic Ulceration Due to the Phosphate Binder, Sevelamer

Sevelamer is a nonabsorbed anion exchange resin phosphate binder indicated for the control of serum phosphate in patients with chronic kidney disease. Gastrointestinal side effects include mucosal deposition of sevelamer crystals that can lead to colonic ulceration.
