Breast cancer metastases in the gastrointestinal tract are more common in the stomach and usually are seen as linitis plastica. Metastases to the colon are rare. One feature of gastrointestinal metastases is a very long interval between the occurrence of the primary breast tumor and diagnosis of the metastatic disease; this interval usually occurs within 6–8 years but has been reported to be as long as 30 years. Occasionally, the discovery of the metastatic disease precedes discovery of the primary cancer as in this case.
