In Belonging: A Response to Timothy Laurie

  • Gulwanyang Moran

摘要

In response to Timothy Laurie’s After Belonging: Aileen Moreton-Robinson’s ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ (2015), this chapter reinforces the importance of the role of belonging and unbelonging in societal and educational contexts in Australia and builds on understanding Moreton-Robinson’s work and reference to Indigenous sovereignty through a First Nations’ lens. It positions the idea that epistemology and ontology without a consideration of practice maintain a superficial approach to education. Through this chapter it is asserted that Indigenous sovereignty, rather than the Australian nation-state, as the ground of belonging establishes and maintains a genuine and sustainable belonging for all who call this continent home.
