摘要

This chapter outlines ICN vision on leadership contributions to better prepare the current and future advanced practice nurses. Key leadership programs offered by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) contribute to general nursing and APN specific workforce leadership and development. Past research has highlighted that a well-developed nursing workforce is critical to successfully implementing an APN workforce into areas that it does not exist (Schober, M., & Stewart, D., International Nursing Review 66:151-153, 2019). Furthermore, leadership and development programs are critical to the APN workforce itself to continue to develop professionally and persist as health sector and global leaders and change agents. This section outlines the following key leadership, research and development programs that the ICN offers to further advance nursing workforces and national nurses’ associations worldwide: Leadership for Change™ (LFC), Global Nursing Leadership Institute (GNLI)™, ICN and CGFNS Certified Global Nurse Consultant, Organizational Development of National Nurses Associations (ODENNA). The use and expansion of these programs will strengthen the nursing profession globally, which in turn will further develop and advance the APN workforce and enable it to expand across systems and into areas it has not been before.
