Distal Tibial Intra-Articular Ilizarov Failed Fixation
摘要
Distal tibial fractures with intra-articular fracture extension are injuries difficult to manage. Due to high-energy trauma usually sustained, the surrounding soft tissues require a period of resuscitation using external fixation devices prior to definitive stabilisation. Definitive reconstruction options include open reduction internal fixation or fine wire Ilizarov fixation. Herein, we report on a case that was managed with Ilizarov but failed to progress to a successful outcome. The aetiology of treatment failure is discussed as well as the strategy of revision surgery.
