Security Fundamentals

Standards and security ought to go hand in hand. The (rather long) rationale is as follows: doing security well is difficult; having more minds applied to ensure the various technologies and processes actually work is a good thing; this will result in a sufficiently high barrier to the miscreants who want to abuse and break things to be put off; the result ought to be a baseline of security that when adopted makes everything better for everyone. The purpose of this chapter is therefore to review the role of standards for the Internet of Things in the particular domain of security. This chapter will inevitably cover some of the same ground of other chapters but with a specific focus on standards in security.
