Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a research area which aims to create intelligent agents in changing environments. While research on AI is performed for more than 70 years, currently it is a highly demanded area transforming society with its novel innovations. The main accelerating factors of AI are advanced data analytics and machine learning algorithms, an increase of efficient computing hardware resources, smart sensors, and networking devices. Typically, useful AI systems perform complex processes in the background and bring a simplistic view to the end user that is, AI in the hands. In this chapter, we present the concepts of data analytics and AI and overview recent research done in the field of AI and related fields. We discuss the recent works in machine learning, robotics, and reasoning. Recent machine learning research focuses on deep architectures. Thus, the chapter mainly focuses on recent works in deep learning for images, videos, speech, and activity analysis. The chapter also covers recent tools and libraries for AI and machine learning-based development. As readers with no programming background might find it hard to use such tools and libraries, we cover some of the tools that provide a graphical user interface-based deep learning. In summary, chapter acts as a survey of recent developments in AI and machine learning from a theoretical and practical scenario.
