Histiocytic Disease of the Orbit
摘要
The histiocytic disorders are caused by an abnormal accumulation of cells of the mononuclear phagocytic system (MPS), which are derived from the bone marrow stem cells and consist of dendritic cells and macrophages. While the term ‘histiocyte’ refers to a connective tissue macrophage, the histiocytic disorders encompass proliferations of both dendritic cells and macrophages of different origins; thus, the term ‘histiocytosis’ has been adopted universally to describe an aberrant accumulation of either of the mononuclear phagocytes.
