Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed procedures in aesthetic surgery world-wide. Trending on social media and promoted by the fashion and beauty industry, the procedure has become a popular one to master. Upper blepharoplasty procedures, which were traditionally limited to excision of skin, muscle and fat of the eyelid, procedures have now evolved to incorporate a wider scope of techniques. There are no gold standard techniques in blepharoplasty but there is guidance to minimize complications and tools to allow the surgeon to optimize their outcomes. Our philosophy is that periocular rejuvenation should always be about the individual needs of the patient and thus the assessment and surgical technique should be able to encompass this. The overall aim of this chapter is to provide surgeons the foundational knowledge to assess for, plan and perform upper blepharoplasty while emphasizing the philosophy of bespoke treatment planning to understand and meet patient expectations.
