Inviting Engagement with Atmospheres
摘要
In ‘Inviting Engagement with Atmospheres,’ Chris E. Hurst and Michela J. Stinson experiment by researching-with atmospheres in the Anthropocene. They locate their work within embodied ethical practices of proximity—of relational closeness and care, of messy middle-ness, and of being with place. Researching together and apart, they attend to the material and affective atmospheres of two Northern-adjacent tourism places in Ontario, Canada. Oriented toward cultivating multiple ways of knowing and being in the world, they research-with atmospheres as a methodological approach attending to the non-representational embodied, affective, and material experience of being-with places. They experiment with two atmospheric, conceptual propositions: fidelity and reverberations. As separate propositions brought into contact through their productive and disruptive possibilities, fidelity and reverberations remind us to linger with place, to feel, and to listen.
