Ethics and Philosophy of Anne Nasimiyu Wasike

Most intellectual work proceeds from deliberate perspectives that shape interpretations and resultant actions from different authored ideas. This chapter aims at presenting the ethical frameworks and philosophical paradigms evidenced in Anne Nasimiyu Wasike’s works in the context of promoting liberation theologies for various social categories, especially women, in Africa. That will be traced from her publications that range between 1984 and 2017. Since the chapter is anchored on the need to re-live the ideals of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians such as respect for human dignity and gender justice which the above theologian also advocated in most of her works, an attempt shall be made to analyze Nasimiyu’s non-oppressive and harmonized liberation approach that is largely informed by her feminist Christology that not only reconciles the metaphysical and everyday experiences of women but is also mindful of the need for care and protection of other vulnerable groups, like children. In plotting a way forward, the chapter will link Nasimiyu’s liberation approach to the Circle’s future agenda of purposefully and holistically influencing social change and the wellbeing of the planet at large. Since the paper is philosophical in nature, the hermeneutic method, which is expository, analytic, and evaluative in nature, shall be used to interpret and present the data obtained from a desktop review. The works of the author under study will be purposefully sampled in the context of the issues at hand.
