Beyond the Tar of Bottom Power: Rising Above the Sociolinguistic Denigration of Women’s Success

This chapter investigates the underlying power of successful African women, with a view to delineating how the society currently views women who have attained great heights in their various professions, and why such women’s successes have/are attributed to the use of ‘bottom powerBottom Power’. Additionally, this paper also examines the effect of such derogatory language use on women and the way forward for women in the society.
