General Relativity from Poincare Breaking and Gauge Invariance
摘要
Quantum fields and gravity strike sparks off each other if gravity is emergent. In this talk, we show that Poincare breaking and gauge invariance lead to emergent general relativity. In effective field theories, the UV cutoff breaks Poincare invariance and gives explicit masses to gauge bosons at the loop level. We show that just as Higgs field arises to restore gauge symmetry for a massive vector boson, affine curvature arises as a spurion to restore gauge symmetries broken explicitly by the UV cutoff. The reason for the difference is that vector boson mass (UV cutoff) respects (violates) Poincare symmetry. As per this point, we show how general relativity emerges, how the model parameters relate to flat spacetime loops, how induction of Newton’s constant necessitates new particles, and how quadratic curvature term is related to the boson-fermion number difference. We discuss implications of the resultant emergent general relativity in regard to naturalness, cosmological constant problem, gauge hierarchy problem, inflation, and black holes. Finally, we give a set of select observations that can falsify the emergent gravity model under concern.
