Research on Designing Teaching–Learning Sequencies: Accomplishment and Challenges

In this article I will give a brief overview of design research in TLS and the Design Based Research (DBR) methodology that enables the development of teaching materials based on research evidence. As physics teachers, it is in our interest to focus on teaching approaches that produce high rates of student success and to develop learning materials to enable those strategies. By adopting a scientific approach, DBR seeks to identify which types of instruction work and which do not. I will then give an exemplification of how we apply the DBR methodology in Donostia Physics Education Research Group. I will end with some assessments of the research on teaching materials and challenges for the future.
