Musculoskeletal Disorders Risk Assessment in a Radiotherapy Service

The risk of a health worker contracting work-related illnesses is about 1.5 times greater than the risk of all other workers. For this reason, the objective of this study was to evaluate the work-related musculoskeletal disorders risks to which the clinical placement students of the Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy degree were exposed. The study was carried out in a public radiotherapy service, where 482 ergonomic evaluations were carried out, for a total number of 10 participants, using the REBA and RULA methods, using the ErgoFellow software. A semi-struc- tured interview was also carried out. The statistical analysis of the results was per-formed using the IBM SPSS software. The study made it possible to understand that the ergonomic risk was mostly low in both genders and that in the workplaces, the risk was considered medium in the “Planning TC Control Room” and in the “Linear Accelerator Control Rooms”, with the activities that presented a higher level of risk were “Moving the treatment table”, “Aligning the patient along the sagittal mid- line”, “Placing treatment masks”, “Marking the zero cut-off points and placing the fiducial marks”, “Perform tattoos on the patient”, “View the volumes to be treated” and “Handle hardware equipment”. The variables that most contributed to the level of risk were the trunk, neck, arm, forearm and lower limbs.
