Process Mining and TOPSIS Analysis for Identifying the Most Complex Combination Vehicle Model and Paint Color – A Case Study

Selecting the optimal combination of vehicle models and paint colors is a complex task that involves multiple and sometimes conflicting criteria, such as application time, viscosity, failure rate, average paint consumption, and total application cost. In this study, we apply the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method to rank and evaluate the complexity of application in several combinations of vehicle models and paint colors. By using a real case study in the automotive industry, we demonstrated how TOPSIS can assist in identifying the vehicle model and paint color combination that presents the greatest challenge to the application process. Our findings indicated that the most complex combination is the vehicle ‘Model A’ with paint color ‘Light Red’. This study contributes to the decision-making process for selecting combinations that present greater complexity in application, as well as highlights the importance of considering multiple criteria when making complex decisions in the automotive industry.
