Models, Theories and Approaches for the Design and Development Process: An Organising Framework and Visual Overview

The design and development process is influenced by many interrelated issues. A vast range of process models, theories and approaches have been developed over the years to appreciate, communicate, support and improve design and development—each embodying a particular viewpoint on the issues. This chapter introduces a new framework to organise many of the contributions and clarify some relationships. A holistic overview of the field is presented visually to complement the framework.
