Principles of Determining the Volume of Passenger Traffic Based on a Comprehensive Assessment of Demand

One of the directions of development of the transport complex of the Russian Federation is the development of multimodal transport technologies and infrastructure to ensure multimodal transportation. The article analyzes the existing methods for assessing and forecasting changes in the volume of passenger traffic and demand for transportation services. The article describes the methodology of determining the volume of passenger traffic based on a comprehensive assessment of demand. The sources of information for calculating the passenger traffic flow were determined, the evaluation of factors affecting the demand was carried out and the concept of “transport resistance” was described in detail. The example of the diagram of the realized and forecasted demand is given and the analysis of the obtained results correctness is carried out. It is shown that the proposed methodology is aimed at meeting the basic requirements for the organization of passenger transportation, which are to obtain the maximum income when performing multimodal transportation in the direction, and to maximize the number of passengers transported in order to better meet passenger demand.
