Application of AHP Method for Multi-criteria Evaluation of Variants for New Railway Route

Multicriteria analyses, their preparation, and comparative analysis of the results obtained from the assessment of projects with the application of several MCA methods are the subject of this research. The issue of research in this paper is the conceptual solutions for the railway section Bitola—Resen, for which different methods of multicriteria analysis will be applied, and a critical comparison of the results obtained according to each method will be made. Multicriteria analyses, their preparation, and comparative analysis of the results obtained from the assessment of projects using multiple methods are the center of interest of this research. First, the three conceptual solutions for a railway section Bitola—Resen will be presented. Then, the methods by which the multicriteria evaluation will be done will be explained, and only then will the comparison and assessment of the variants be made. This paper presents a methodology for route selection in the planning and designing railways based on multiple criteria decision-making. The proposed method provides a complete and systematic solution to this problem. The result of the methodology is the most suitable route following the adopted criteria and existing constraints. The developed methodology is based on the AHP method (Analytic Hierarchy Process).
