The Influence of Genetic Markers on the Productive Qualities of Young Kalmyk Breed

The article presents the results of studies on the polymorphism of blood groups and the thyroglobulin (Tg) gene in Kalmyk bulls, as well as the influence of various thyroglobulin genotypes on the dynamics of live weight and average daily gains. Blood groups were determined by the standard Neumann-Sorenson method, thyroglobulin genotyping was performed by PCR-PDRF. As a result of the research, it was found that the frequency of occurrence of A1A2’3D’Z antigens is high, the frequency variation is in the range of 70–90%, the frequency of C2S1L’U antigens is minimal, the frequency variation is in the range of 1–15%. The frequency of occurrence of the T allele was 24%, the G allele 76%. Animals with the TT genotype had a greater live weight in all age periods, despite the average daily growth rate, than animals with the TG and GG genotypes. The data obtained may indicate the purposefulness of the selection of animals with desirable alleles, it is also possible to select parental pairs to obtain a larger number of offspring with a homozygous genotype.
