Alternative Energy in Transport Companies and Implementation-Limits of Biological Fuels (the Case of Scandinavia)

This study explores the connections between industrial ecology and renewable transportation energy sources. By bringing in the lens of industrial ecology, we address the potential pitfalls of using rapeseed-based biodiesel and wood-based alcohols. The study discusses the outcomes of using biofuels in transportation and provides an estimate of the resources needed to adopt biofuels more widely as a transportation energy source (mobile energy). Two Swedish bus operators conducted fleet testing using biodiesel as part of the deployment phase. The environmental and organizational hurdles to using biodiesel in public transportation were analyzed in detail. Both firms reported organizational limitations to biodiesel use at various levels (management, garage employees, and drivers). Additives and emissions were the primary targets of investigation regarding environmental constraints. These empirical findings are discussed in the context of industrial ecology. The convergence of human production with ecological systems is an essential viewpoint. The transportation sector is a major mobile energy converter, a common feature of this business. The link to industrial ecology is enabled via mobile energy conversion. This link is shown much further in a case study of the two bus firms. Both of the bus companies use substantial amounts of mobile energy conversion. Bus firms are primarily to blame for using scarce resources since their operations need much fuel.
