An Example of Analysis: Tension–Compression Straining of a FCC Single Crystal Plate and Bauschinger Effect

As an example of crystal plasticity finite element analysis, mechanical response of a single crystal plate with a dislocation cell structureDislocation cell structure under cyclic loadingCyclic loading was examined in detail. The employed model consists of cell walls of 2 μm thickness where the initial density of dislocations is 1.2 × 1016 /m2, and the interior of cell, whose size is 8 μm and the initial density of dislocations is 1.2 × 1010 /m2. Macroscopic load-elongation curve obtained by the analysis shows a pronounced Bauschinger effectBauschinger effect, which is attributed to stress partitioningStress partitioning taking place in the cell walls and interior. Evolutions of dislocation mean free path, density of atomic vacancy, plastic work density, and cumulative equivalent plastic strain were investigated.
