Introduction

Founded in 2003, Latino Studies has emerged as the leading international peer-reviewed journal for advancing interdisciplinary scholarship about US Latinx communities and their struggle for social justice. The Latino Studies: 20th Anniversary Reader marks this important milestone with the publication of 20 cutting-edge articles published in the journal over the last 20 years. Written by leading and emerging scholars in the field, these articles exemplify the conceptually and theoretically rich work published in the journal since its inception. After a quick overview of the journal’s history and a description of the diverse types of articles we publish in the journal, we provide introductions to the four sections selected for this reader; Latinidades/Identidades, Race/Racializations, Migration/Immigration, and Citizenship/Illegality/Belonging. These four sections represent major themes in the field of Latinx studies. We conclude with a reminder of the need for publications such as Latino Studies, and this anthology given the current assault on Latinx studies and our communities.
