The Burial of Touch

The human evolution cannot be only quantitative, depending on ‘the great number’ or on a greater pressure of the environment. It requires the ability of the human being to act on the core of its original being and of its dynamism. The possibility of such an action, of such an inter-fecundity, exists in the couple as a relationship between two individuals but not between groups (cf. La Nature, p. 314; Nature, p. 248). Indeed, in this case, the split between nature and culture cannot be overcome. In the group, as in the community, the passage from the natural identity to the cultural identity cannot happen, as it can in the couple, because the relation to the body as a both natural and spiritual entity is dissolved or is transformed into cultural essence(s).
