What Desire Grants Us Life?—Beyond Laughter and Tears

  • Luce Irigaray

摘要

We have paralyzed our desire either through an investment in various beings, various ‘objects’ defined by our cultural tradition, starting from which we relate to the other(s) as members of a community, or through leaving it suspended in supersensitive ideals or in divine figures. These had the virtue of partially preserving the transcendental character of our desire, but they dissuaded, and even prevented us from fulfilling it.
