摘要

This chapter investigates the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in generating social sustainability among operators of heavy machinery in an Industry 5.0 setting. The well-being of industrial workers is an integral part of social sustainability. The study adopted a qualitative multiple-case study strategy. The results reveal the main problems experienced by operators (cognitive and physical strain, safety-related concerns, and a skill gap) and provide examples of AI-powered solutions designed by the case companies that tackle these problems. The findings show that AI can provide several implications for social sustainability, such as improved health, safety, emotional and mental well-being, work efficiency as well as training and education. This research contributes to Industry 5.0 literature by providing evidence from the real industry environment to increase the social sustainability of organisations.
