Rapid Prototyping, Additive Manufacturing and Artificial Intelligence in Dental and Craniomaxillofacial Functional Rehabilitation

AsFunctional rehabilitationhistory a consequence of hereditary diseases, developmental abnormalities, or trauma, missing anatomical parts of craniomaxillofacial regions may often occur; this may significantly affect function as well as aesthetics, which may adversely affect the social interactions of the patient with family or friends. Although it is possible to restore the majority of cases to near normal form and function, in some situations, hanging on to the “one approach concept” may result in a “worse than the cure treatment” (Sadowsky 2017); facial disfigurement, oral dysfunction, and/or unpleasant aesthetics. Chronologically, some key advances in the early 1980s and the following years made the scene of rehabilitation/reconstruction science completely revisitedFunctional rehabilitationhistory. This chapter aims to reveal these advances till today, together with a review of the latest advancements achieved, and finally, some case reports based on the forefront nowadays technologies dedicated.
