Modern Implant Design

This chapter analyzes modern implant design, emphasizing three essential components: platform connection, macro architecture, and surface modification. Recent advancements in implant design have changed treatment options in implantology. For example, the design of special threads has made immediate implantation possible in cases that were not possible before. These developments also raised success rates in challenging clinical settings and improved the use of immediate loading treatments. For instance, in suitable situations, modern surfaces show healing times down from the traditional 3–6 months to as little as 3–6 weeks. Clinical data indicates these advancements, with modern implants exhibiting success rates of more than 95%. Nonetheless, appropriate case selection and specific design elements are essential for achieving the best results. In other words, it is impossible to suggest a singular kind of implant as the optimal choice for all patients. Rather, a unique type of implant should be chosen for each patient based on their particular situation. This chapter, supported by high-quality scientific data, provides an in-depth analysis of key design aspects to help clinicians choose the best implants for each case.
