Soft Tissue Neoplasms of the Head and Neck Region

Soft tissue neoplasms are a heterogeneous group of tumors generally classified by their line of differentiation. The main histologic groups are fibroblastic and myofibroblastic tumors, vascular tumors, adipocytic tumors, skeletal muscle tumors, smooth muscle tumors, and nerve sheath tumors. Soft tissue tumors of uncertain type refer to the group of tumors without known normal tissue counterparts. The basic characteristics of this group of tumors including benign, borderline, and malignant lesions are discussed in this chapter.
