摘要

In the realm of rhinoplasty, achieving desirable function and esthetics requires distinctive knowledge of the impact of each constituent unit within the nose. As a primary supporting structure, the nasal septum is an inseparable unit of the nasal complex that plays an essential role in maintaining the nasal patency and airflow, and is a cornerstone affecting both the symmetry and esthetic appearance of the nose. The cartilaginous part of the septum is the most common source for harvesting autogenous cartilage during rhinoplasty, and various surgical approaches have been introduced to address both cartilage harvesting and correction of septal deformities. Moreover, several local and systemic conditions should be considered before planning septoplasty. This chapter outlines the anatomical considerations, presurgical evaluation, and description of various surgical techniques, as well as their indications, and complications.
