Diagnosis Using 3D Cone Beam Computerized Tomogram

摘要

This chapter presents a comprehensive examination of the utilization of 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in orthognathic surgery, including an overview of Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) data, the concept of 6 degrees of freedom (DOF), and various steps in data acquisition, image segmentation, and visualization. The authors demonstrate how CBCT allows for precise surgical planning and execution, leading to improved outcomes, especially in the treatment of asymmetry and class II malocclusion. The integration of digital technologies such as 3D CBCT, scanning, and 3D printing in orthognathic surgery is exemplified through the Bestian Balance Orthognathic Surgery (BOS) system. Presurgical planning, simulation, and modeling, along with the surgical process itself, are discussed in detail, showing the advantages of this technology, including more reliable results, the avoidance of anatomically significant structures, and enhanced condylar position reproduction. The authors argue that despite the increasing digitalization of surgical procedures, the surgeon’s role remains vital, particularly in establishing the most suitable surgical plan.
