The zygomatic bone, also known as malar bone, is a crucial facial element that contributes both to the aesthetics and function of the human face, playing a significant role in maintaining the position of the eyeballs. Fractures of the zygomatic complex are common following facial traumas such as traffic accidents, physical assaults, or sports injuries, and young men are the most affected. The diagnosis of zygomatic fractures involves a thorough clinical examination, assessing symptoms such as pain, edema, periorbital ecchymosis, and facial deformities. Imaging studies, such as computed tomography, are essential for evaluating the extent and severity of the fracture. The treatment of zygomatic fractures can be either conservative or surgical, depending on the complexity of the injury. Simple fractures can be treated conservatively, while more complex cases typically require surgery to realign and fix the bone fragments. Postoperative care is crucial for the success of the treatment and may include cold compresses, rest, a light diet, and precautions to prevent trauma to the operated area. Complications associated with zygomatic fractures may include bleeding, suture dehiscence, infections, visible scars, nerve injuries, aesthetic changes, vision impairment, and neurosensory disturbances. Therefore, postoperative care and medical follow-up are crucial to minimize these risks and ensure successful recovery of the patient.
