摘要

The floor of the mouth (FOM) is the second most commonly affected site of oral cavity cancer after the tongue. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most predominant type of cancer. In this chapter, we discuss the anatomy of the floor of mouth and the different types of floor of mouth resections starting from the treatment of premalignant lesions and further describing methods of surgical resections, based on the tumour’s size and invasion of neighbouring structures. Particular emphasis is given on the functional significance of the floor of mouth and the preferred methods of reconstruction following different resective approaches in order to achieve the best possible anatomical and functional reconstruction.
