摘要

Zenker’s diverticulum is a rare entity in elderly patients, with unknown aetiology. Symptoms are typically slowly evolving and consist of dysphagia for solid food and regurgitation. The diagnosis is confirmed by a barium swallow. Surgery is the only curative approach for symptomatic pharyngeal pouches. Endoscopic approaches have replaced the open approach. Exposure of the diverticular bar is achieved transorally by means of rigid endoscopes. The common wall between the diverticulum and the oesophagus is transected with either a stapler or CO2 laser. Because of its low morbidity and high efficacy, this approach is the treatment of choice for Zenker’s diverticulum.
