Through the postdigital lens, the variety of different ‘definitions of definition’ can be considered as a coherent thread combining perception, logic, and technology alongside the essential entwining between society, history and knowledge. While definition in the postdigital world is necessary—as with all definition—for social coordination, it is also contingent upon the observer. This definition of ‘postdigital definition’ is paraconsistent, embracing internal contradictions between the standard dictionary definitions of definition alongside the contested nature of meaning, the self-referential nature of definition, the postdigital critique of boundaries, definition as representation, and the role of digital technology and binary definitions.
