Postdigital Pragmatism
摘要
Pragmatism is a diverse yet distinct body of thought and practice. A number of thinkers have been cited as forerunners, but pragmatism is widely credited as emerging from the conditions of the late nineteenth century in North America. Successive generations of pragmatists in a range of disciplines and domains have sought to repurpose pragmatism to meet the needs of the day. Given the different positions within pragmatism, this entry does not attempt to provide an exhaustive account of what pragmatism is. Instead, the entry offers a point of orientation and several points of entry in to how pragmatism has been used to make sense of, engage with, and have practical consequences for the world. Following a brief overview of the history and developments within pragmatism, the entry outlines the value of pragmatism for postdigital inquiry.
