Photon Counting Detectors: Applications in Radiotherapy

This chapter aims to introduce the reader to the application of photon counting detectors for radiation therapy. Whereas the principal concepts of radiation therapy are introduced first, followed by the most common types used today. The chapter continues with elaborating on the major difficulties the therapies are facing, which leads to the application of photon counting detectors in radiation therapy. Finally, this chapter will close on elaborating examples where photon counting detectors are expected to be used first, or might be of use for radiation therapy. The chapter closes with suggested further literature and references. As an introduction to the topic, this chapter cannot claim to be comprehensive nor complete. However, it may help to find further reading through the referred literature.
