Climate change poses a serious threat to human existence, different sectors of the economy and development globally, calling for effective and efficient ways of adapting and mitigating its impact. In this chapter, we explore the potential of nature-based agri-environmental solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation. We reviewed previous studies and discussed agri-environmental nature-based solutions (NBS) (e.g., agroforestry, agroecological farming, regenerative and conservation-agricultural practices). These solutions reportedly help lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, promote soil health, boost crop output, and increase resistance to changing climatic circumstances in literature. For instance, sustainable forest management can help mitigate climate change by 0.4–2.1 Pg CO2 eq. year−1. Furthermore, we highlighted the challenges for implementing these solutions, such as lack of technical know-how and resources, restricted access to financing, and inadequate governance and policy frameworks. In order to support the implementation of these practices, the chapter suggests increasing awareness and investment in research, promoting access to finance, strengthening governance and policy frameworks, and fostering cooperation between key stakeholders at all levels. The chapter concludes that NBS are a promising way to address with the impacts of climate change, but a concerted effort is needed to scale them up and remove the obstacles to their acceptance and implementation.
