ICWES-VIII, Abidjan, Ivory Coast, September 20–27, 1987
摘要
This chapter concerns ICWES-VIII, held in September 1987, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The main theme of the conference was “Science, Technology, and Development.” The event was organized by Cercle Ivoirien des Femmes Ingénieurs, Scientifiques, Architectes et Techniciennes Supérieures (CIFISATS), founded 2 years before the conference and supported by the Association des Ingénieurs, Techniciens, et Agronomes de la Côte d’Ivoire (AITACI). This was the first time ICWES took place in Africa. Material for this conference is fragmentary; some papers have been recovered in full from audio recordings. From what can be recovered, topics discussed during the conference included nutrition, environment, and construction. Several resolutions were adopted during the Business Meeting: collaborating with governments, encouraging the creation of national associations for women engineers and scientists, sharing knowledge worldwide, and assisting women—in particular in rural areas—in understanding and using new technologies. Testimonials were also included in this chapter.
