Merrickville 2001, A First Meeting

This chapter opens the second part of the book, which is devoted to the steps taken to ensure the continuity of the ICWES conferences. It provides details of a historical meeting in Merrickville, Ontario, whose goal was to create an international organization of women in STEM fields. The organizers invited 20 women from around the world with the help of a grant from UNESCO (Paris Headquarters) and a grant from the Canadian Commission for UNESCO in May 2001 The meeting was successful in defining the mission, goal, structure, and membership types. This would be presented for adoption at the Business Meeting of ICWES-XII in Ottawa in 2002.
