摘要

This chapter concerns ICWES-IX, held in July 1991 at the University of Warwick in Coventry, UK. It was hosted by the Women’s Engineering Society (UK) for the second time, the first being ICWES-II. The event was organized by Elizabeth Laverick and a large committee of volunteers. In her testimony, Laverick summarized the motivations of the women in S&T to gather as “[t]he desire to meet, to confer, to learn and to demonstrate their technical achievements.” ICWES-IX participants contributed more specifically to the theme of “Communication,” a theme that was substantially present in the topics covered: satellites, transport, information and technology transfer (TT), various basic sciences, and even public awareness of issues. Regarding gender, awareness among women, education, career development, and demographics attracted contributions linked to the communication theme. At the business meeting, an international continuous committee was created to help support the organization of the following ICWES conference. Testimonials were also included in this chapter.
